Abstract

The low number of patient visits due to competition with nearby healthcare facilities has caused the Bed Occupancy Rate (BOR) of Siti Miriam Hospital from January to June 2024 to reach only 31%, far below the standard. The low BOR reflects suboptimal utilization of hospital beds, which affects the efficiency of inpatient services. Therefore, strategic steps are needed to improve the efficiency of inpatient facility management. This study proposes the use of a control chart to monitor the efficiency of bed utilization at Siti Miriam Hospital. A control chart is a graphical tool that helps identify patterns of data variability and potential deviations in facility management. The aim of this study is to analyze the implementation of a control chart as a support tool for reporting BOR values in the Inpatient Unit of Siti Miriam Hospital Lawang during the first and second quarters (January–June) of 2024. This research uses a quantitative method with a descriptive approach. The descriptive method is applied to describe the state of a variable independently, without comparing it to or seeking relationships with other variables. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of the control chart from January to June showed a stable proportion, as the data points were within control limits. Continuous monitoring helps design improvements, such as optimizing bed allocation and administrative procedures. It is expected that the BOR can reach the optimal range (60%–85%), improving operational efficiency, service quality, and patient satisfaction, as well as supporting the hospital’s long-term goal of providing high-quality and affordable healthcare services.
