Abstract

Adolescent girls are susceptible to reproductive health issues like vaginal discharge (fluor albus) due to inadequate vulva hygiene. Maintaining the cleanliness of external reproductive organs is crucial for preventing infections and ensuring overall health. Health education has been proven effective in enhancing understanding and healthy behaviors. A community service program was conducted at MA Sumber Sari Kowang, Tuban, involving 20 female students from grades XI and XII. The primary objective was to improve their understanding of vulva hygiene to prevent abnormal vaginal discharge. The program comprised a preparation phase (educational materials, demonstration media, permits) and an implementation phase. The implementation included a pre-test, interactive educational sessions (anatomy, physiology, risk factors, prevention), a practical demonstration of correct vulva hygiene, followed by a post-test and brief counseling. Evaluation was performed by comparing pre-test and post-test results. The results demonstrated a significant increase in participants' knowledge. Prior to the intervention, 85% of students lacked comprehensive understanding of personal hygiene and vulva care; after the education, 100% showed a thorough improvement in understanding the importance of vulva hygiene for preventing reproductive health problems. All participants (100%) expressed satisfaction with the interactive educational materials and counseling sessions, which helped them address personal questions. The low initial knowledge level among adolescents regarding vulva hygiene underscored the urgency of appropriate education. Interactive methods and practical demonstrations proved effective in providing tangible understanding. School environment support and personal counseling also played crucial roles in the program's success. Interactive vulva hygiene education effectively increased adolescent girls' knowledge and awareness regarding the importance of maintaining reproductive organ cleanliness to prevent vaginal discharge and infections. Increased and regular educational and outreach activities on vulva hygiene and reproductive health in schools are highly recommended, supported by teachers and health personnel.
